E-File – Visit the Department\u2019s E-File Services page to view the approved list of software providers to submit electronically filed returns with ADOR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Online Paper Forms – ADOR provides fillable forms and instructions for taxpayers who prefer to prepare their own returns at https:\/\/azdor.gov\/forms\/individual. Expect delays if filing by paper as the Department typically processes more than 80,000 paper returns in the last month of tax season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choose Direct Deposit – It is available regardless of whether the return is filed electronically or by mail. If a bank account rejects the deposit, ADOR will send a paper check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Individual income tax filers may qualify for free tax preparation assistance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Direct File. With Direct File, eligible Arizonans can file their state and federal returns for FREE. After filing a federal tax return, the FileYourStateTaxes tool guides users to file their Arizona state taxes, without requiring them to re-enter their information, creating a seamless federal-state filing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arizona Free File Alliance – Offers a free file program to Arizona taxpayers who meet specific criteria. Approximately 61,000 taxpayers used Free File software last year, saving themselves fees, costly errors, and receiving their refund quicker. Individuals must go through azdor.gov to ensure no fees are charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program – Delivers free support to individuals 50 and older who cannot afford a tax preparation service to file federal and Arizona returns. Program details can be found at https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/money\/taxes\/aarp_taxaide\/.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) – Provides free tax help to people who generally make $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. Taxpayers can inquire about free preparation through VITA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 50% of taxpayers file within the last month of tax season. Those who need more time to file can submit a Form 204 on or before April 15 to request an extension. As a reminder, an extension does not grant more time to pay taxes owed. Taxpayers who have already been granted an extension through the IRS do not need to submit a separate State of Arizona extension request.
