Yuma, AZ – The City of Yuma Fire Department has received a new set of Hurst extrication tools, commonly known as the \u201cJaws of Life,\u201d thanks to a grant provided by the Governor\u2019s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). This critical equipment will enhance the department\u2019s ability to respond to vehicle collisions and other emergency situations requiring rapid rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to David Padilla Jr, Public Information Officer with the Yuma Fire Department, the grant-funded extrication tools will be strategically positioned on Yuma Engine 5, which serves a critical high-speed corridor that includes major highways such as I-8 and SR-195, as well as 32nd Street. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Motor vehicle accidents remain one of the leading causes of emergency responses in the region, and having state-of-the-art extrication tools allows first responders to work more effectively under high-pressure situations. The Yuma Fire Department conducts regular training with rescue equipment to ensure personnel are proficient in their use and prepared for real-world emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
