Greater Yuma Water Safety Alliance Expands Access to CPR Training with Free Community Workshop

Yuma, Ariz. – As part of its commitment to water safety and drowning prevention, the Greater Yuma Water Safety Alliance (GYWSA) is expanding community access to lifesaving skills through free CPR and safety workshops. CPR is a critical component of the Five Layers of Protection, which emphasize multiple strategies to prevent drowning, including barriers, supervision, water competency, emergency preparedness, and CPR training.

To support this effort, the Yuma Fire and Police Departments, in partnership with the United Yuma Firefighters Charity, will facilitate a free CPR class on Saturday, April 5, at 9 a.m. The class will be held in the community room of the Yuma Police Department (1500 S. 1st Avenue).

By equipping more community members with CPR skills, GYWSA aims to enhance water safety awareness and ensure more people are prepared to respond in an emergency.

“The Greater Yuma Water Safety Alliance is dedicated to promoting water safety and emergency preparedness in our community,” said Jenn Reichelt, Deputy City Administrator. “By offering free CPR workshops, we are taking an important step in ensuring more residents have the knowledge and confidence to respond in critical situations.”

This hands-on training is open to anyone 14 and up – no prior experience is necessary! Certified instructors will teach participants how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants, providing valuable skills that could help save a life.
